Party Info
Interested in hosting an event at the Bluebird? We offer a variety of options:
“Non-Private” Parties (15-25 people): We will do our best to make arrangements for you in a section of the bar’s regular seating areas. We do not charge any room rental fees for non-private events, but we do require a per-person minimum of $30 for a two-hour time slot. The minimum requirements will increase in increments of $15 per person for each additional hour. Please contact us to ask us about available times.
Private Events/Bluebird Exclusive Events: In order to hold a private event at The Bluebird, we have minimum requirements that vary depending on the day of the week and time of day. They are before tax, gratuity, and room rental. Please contact email parties@bluebirdchicago.com for pricing.
Deposit: A non-refundable deposit of one-third of the total bill is due three weeks in advance of your event. A credit card number will suffice in lieu of a check.
Gratuity: Gratuity is 20%. (18% for servers, 2% for the event coordinator) There is a $125 minimum gratuity per server, $75 per bus person. Tax is 10.25% (Il sales tax = 9.25% plus Chicago MPEA tax=1%.) Certain non-profit entities may be exempt from tax. The Bluebird will be happy to waive the tax as long as a valid tax-exempt certificate is provided in advance or on the day of the event.
Wine Tastings/ Seminars: A full, sit-down seminar and tasting can be customized per your request. They are typically given by Jill Mott, the Bluebird sommelier, and can last anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours, depending on level of interest. The cost is $5 per guest, covering speaker’s time, any printed materials, extra supplies, glassware, and/ or staff. The minimum wine tasting fee is $75.
We also offer a “summary” tasting for a flat fee of $50. This includes printed tasting notes describing the wines for your event, and a brief explanation (10-15 minutes) on the noteworthy aspects of the wines selected for your event.
Beer, Wine & Beverage Selections: We have an extensive list of beer and wines from which to choose. This includes our wine by the glass and bottle lists, and some additional “value-oriented” wines for parties. All of our beer and wines are carefully selected. We are happy to help with the selection process to ensure the best assortment for your event.
Food Menu: For private events, we can supply food from our regular menu or our catering menu. Food selections must be confirmed at least ten days prior to your event. Typically, we will provide the “cold” items at the beginning of the event, and then present additional selections throughout the duration of your party.
Other: We provide votive candles on the tables as part of our regular set-up. We do not normally use linens in our dining rooms; however, linens are available for an extra fee.
You are welcome to bring flowers or have them delivered for your event. Deliveries can be made after 4pm on the day of your event. We are flexible when an earlier delivery is necessary. Please let us know if you would like to bring decorations. We do not allow confetti or tape/tacking on the walls.
We cannot allow guests to bring their own food or alcohol to the wine bar. We can provide customized cakes and desserts. Items that are not made in-house are provided by Bittersweet Bakery; ordering is arranged through the bar. If you wish to bring a cake from another licensed caterer/bakery, arrangements must be made in advance and a plating/service fee of $25 per cake will be charged. Homemade items are not permitted per a Chicago Department of Public Health ordinance.
We can assist you in ordering any audio/visual equipment such as slide projectors, power point projectors, and screens.
Alternate Venue: If you would like to organize a larger event, consider our sister restaurant, Webster’s Wine Bar located just 5 minutes from the Bluebird. You can learn more about Webster’s Second Story event space at: http://websterwinebar.com/private-parties/the-party-room/.
